Wearing a mask is a novel experience for most of the population. Elastic straps can cause pressure induced trauma to the ears if the straps of the mask are too tight. It is best to adjust masks so their straps do not cross the ear. If irritation occurs above the ear from the strap mask, a piece of felt or fleece can be wrapped around that portion of the strap to increase comfort. Masks that are reused can result in acne flares around the mouth and chin. Theses eruptions may respond to topical acne medication. If using cloth masks, it would be best to wash these frequently.
